The New Prince — Dutch National Opera
The New Prince is a colourful bloodcurdling revue about power, involving world leaders, Lady Fortuna, a chorus of oppressors and the oppressed, President Wu Virtu from the year 2032, and many others. The New Prince is set in the past and in the future, and revolves around the publication of an anniversary edition of The Prince. Besides Machiavelli, it features well-known people of our day, including Henry Kissinger, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Osama bin Laden, as well as a fantasy world ruler Wu Virtu. Machiavelli’s lover is Fortuna, who is also his publisher.
The relevance of his writing to today inspired composer Mohammed Fairouz to write his second opera. Fairouz is strongly engaged with social and political issues. He works with librettist David Ignatius, a well-known American foreign expert and author of novels.

In deze strak gegoreografeerde voorstelling,
die een grote hoeveelheid aan scènewisselingen bevat,
strooit ze [Lotte de Beer] met vondsten en effecten,
